Recently, FMS announced that CAT will be the single entrance test through which students can get their seats reserved in FMS. No more written test will be conducted, which was the only medium (FMS own written test). However, no formal declaration has been made regarding the same till now. But, most probably this plan will be executed with effect from this year only, in the interest of reducing the additional cost which is involved in arranging the venues for written test, invigilators on duties and other factors.
It’s a bad news for the students who were specifically preparing the FMS written test. The test was scheduled for 4th December, 2011. Students rather have to fill the CAT form instead of FMS’. If we talk about the pattern of CAT, it is entirely different from that of FMS. Cat emphasize more on quantitative aptitude where as FMS emphasize more on verbal ability section. The level of difficulty is not that tough, but still comparatively these both are the most important sections in the respective entrances.
Now, the tension is, the students who were more interested in CAT, I mean in IIM’s, and other top B Schools, seats for FMs will be open for them as well. And the number applications for FMS will increase. A candidate who will score more than 95% in CAT, getting a call from IIM Ahmedabad, will rather try for FMS first, after all it is the best B=school in terms of Return on investment. The competition is increasing day by day, and so are my chances of getting into the right B-school. I hope, the authorities take the right decision in interest of MBA aspirants like me.
